On the Record (Rick Welton)

Rick – Drum Genius

Birthplace : Stretford, Manchester at home !

Currently residing : The Happy Valley aka Bollington

Musical past and present in one rambling run-on sentence : started playing guitar aged 8, had classical guitar lessons when I was 11 but didn’t last long as wanted to play rock guitar ! Started writing and recording my own music when I was 14. Played in my first band aged 19 – Halfway to Handsome (the name of the band not me!) which is where I started my musical journey with the legend that is Mark Gandy! Seems like only yesterday! This musical odyssey has continued with my friend for over 30 years and becomes more exciting and rewarding with each passing year(especially as Mark has the best outside bar in Cheshire in addition to his amazing home studio!) Over the years I have moved from lead guitar to bass and eventually to the drums which has become my main instrument in NorthernAdult particularly when playing live. It’s so different from playing guitar but very physical and very rewarding. We basically just love making a load of noise!

I think we’ll both be playing music well into our frail dotage! Long live Rock n Roll!
